Peter Tavy Village Fayre
Tel: 01822 810868
AboutPeter Tavy's great annual village fayre offers something to entertain all ages in the centre of the village on Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August 2018.
The Fayre opens at 2.00pm, welcoming visitors to this attractive little village near Tavistock, on the edge of Dartmoor. Clustered in and around the Village Hall and Methodist Chapel you'll find a host of games, stalls, delicious home-made refreshments, demonstrations and displays of competition entries.
Browse through the "white elephants" on the Granny's Attic stall, or pick up a bargain on the Books; Plants and Garden; Home-made Cakes, and Jams & Preserves stalls. Enjoy an ice cream or sit down to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a tea or coffee, and scrumptious locally-made cakes and savouries for a while.
Try your luck on the ever-popular Tombola stall or in the Grand Raffle (with a chance to win a meal for two at the Peter Tavy Inn) - and enjoy the entertainment and sheep shearing demonstrations.
Have a go on the traditional coconut shy and skittle alley, or test your skill and have fun on some of the many other unique and intriguing games.
With 15 competition categories to be judged, pop into the Village Hall to admire the skills of the young and old entrants at crafts, art, writing, flower arranging, garden produce and cookery (including our fiercely-contested annual cake competition!).
Select a likely-looking duck and head over to the bridge at the end of the Fayre to watch the exciting Duck Race along the Colley Brook through the centre of the village.
Don't forget to bring your teddy bear along to the afternoon's 18th annual meeting of the "Dartmoor Teddy Bears' Dangerous Sports Association". Every year, the Association challenges daring bears and cuddly toys to test their nerve in a hazardous activity. Those toys who complete the task will take home one of the prestigious and coveted "Certificates of Extreme Bravery". Previous years activities for teddy bears have included bungee jumping, surfing, ski-jumping, hang gliding, wing-walking, extreme mountaineering, tightrope walking, rocket flights and extreme mountaineering – come along with your bear to discover this year's challenge.
The Fayre is a great family afternoon out - a slice of traditional village life in which the whole community gets involved. It is held in aid of Peter Tavy Village Hall, Church & Chapel.
Alongside the Fayre, the annual Peter Tavy Plod footrace and fun run will take place on the Bank Holiday Monday, starting at 1.00pm. Come along to enjoy all the fun of the fayre – and don't forget to bring your teddy bear too!
