AboutA great course to increase your confidence for navigating off the paths and tracks in poor visibility and night time.
This course is a good follow on from the Basic Navigation or Intermediate Navigation Courses.
Who is it for?
People with basic walking experience wanting to apply their navigation skills to poor visibility/ night or those consolidating for a walking award assessment.
A general level of fitness is required for an evening walking in open moorland.
Basic hill or moorland walking experience required, including the ability to take a simple bearing.
Having completed our Basic or Intermediate Navigation course is useful and maximises your learning on the Night Navigation Course. However, it is not essential if you already have experience of self navigating simple walks.
Outcomes of the Course
To be able to independently plan and carry out a safe, efficient and effective walk off the paths and tracks in poor visibility.
To have a good understanding of the use of timing and pacing to aid navigation.
To be able to apply tactical navigation methods to aid navigation.
To be aware of contour interpretation and slope aspects.
To be confident to be off paths and tracks in poor visibility and at night.
To have the confidence to get to a point of safety should the conditions unexpectedly change during your walk.
This course will be run by a qualified Mountain Leader or higher who is a National Navigation Award Scheme Provider.
