Originally from Worcestershire I am a landscape photographer based in East Devon. My interest in photography began in the late nineties when my wife suggested I give it a go. However, it wasn't until a move to the beautiful south-west of England, with its wild remote moors and rugged picturesque coastline, that I settled on landscape photography as my genre of choice, and the purchase of my first digital SLR shortly thereafter allowed me to really begin to explore the possibilities of digital landscape photography.
By day I work in IT in Exeter. In my spare time I like to escape from the office, often finding myself alone at a
remote location waiting for the light, with Dartmoor my destination of choice more often than not. Many times, although frustrating, it matters not that the light doesn't come good as there's something pretty special about being alone and seemingly in the middle of nowhere, with only the sounds of nature for company.
What I love about Dartmoor in particular is that it is so varied – there is the rugged high moor, the gentler South moor, and the more rural moor to the East, together with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, woodland, ancient stones and monuments all packed within 368 square miles. There is always somewhere new to explore and, whenever I can, I am there with the camera and tripod.
I am an amateur, in the true sense of the word, i.e. I love what I do. I have had no formal training and make no pretence at being a professional - however I do strive to produce the highest quality work that I can, and resist pushing the sliders too much in post-processing as this can all too easily produce garish unnatural results. Only work that is good enough to be printed large and sharp, and of which I can be proud, makes it to my website.
