AboutA pleasant village situated approximately four miles north of the market town of Tavistock. The village is bordered by the impressive Dartmoor landscape and its granite tors, and there are two rivers, Lyd and the Burn. For the more active, the coast-to-Coast Cycle Way and West Devon Way pass through the village.
But it is the famous Brent Tor with its 19th century church of St Michael de Rupe perched precariously on top that Brentor is known. The myth goes that the the church was built by a wealthy merchant to give thanks to God for bringing him to safety during a storm. Each day the little church began to take shape and each night the devil moved it to the top of the hill to stop the villagers from worshipping. Eventually the villagers grew tired and decided to leave the church on top of the hill where it still stands today.
Now however, there is a thriving community in Brentor. For information about village life and events visit the website: www.brentorvillage.org
