South West Lakes Trust offers spectacular lakes around the county for a wide variety of activities including watersports, fishing and walking.
Roadford Lake near Okehampton, Wimbleball Lake near Dulverton and Tamar Lakes near Bude all offer AALA and RYA approved training centres for dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking and with fully qualified training instructors we can suit all needs from beginners to the more experienced. We also have facilities at each lake for the hire of equipment and self launch.
Courses and tuition include friendly taster sessions for beginners to RYA and BCU levels 1 and 2 for those wishing to further their skills. Children from 8 through to mums and dads and grandmas and grandads are most welcome to come along and try these exciting sports!
The Trust also has two Wheelyboats – one at Roadford and one at Wimbleball Lake, which is available for all to use – and is ideal for the less able and can be easily accessed by people using wheelchairs.
Roadford and Wimbleball Lakes are also excellent trout fisheries, both offering bank and boat fishing, whilst Upper Tamar Lake is a popular coarse fishery. The Trust often runs fishing courses for children, ladies and beginners, and further details are avaiable from our head office.
All our lakes have fantastic footpaths leading visitors around the inlets and changing landscapes of Devon, many of which have colourful walks leaflets highlighting the routes around the lakes.
