Dartmoor is open in winter. And it’s absolutely fabulous!
There’s so much to do and enjoy on Dartmoor all throughout the winter months, when that nip in the air and chance of snow covering the tors and slopes on the open moorland, makes heading out for a family walk just that bit more exhilarating.
For the first time visitor, you can start your day at one of the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centres, chat to the friendly and knowledgable reception staff who will be happy to advise you on where to walk, run, ride or cycle!
The joy of a bracing walk with the family at Haytor, followed by piling into a pub or cafe where a roaring log fire is burning, and tucking into frothy hot chocolate with marshmallows is an experience not to be missed!
There’s a wonderful choice of woodland walks on and around Dartmoor READ MORE. Try walking the dogs in the woods at Bellever Forest or enjoy a cycle ride along the trails at Plymbridge Woods READ MORE, maybe take a stroll in Yarner Wood. National Trust estate at Parke has some beautiful woodland and riverside walks too.

Dartmoor has fabulous food, available everywhere from the great cafes and tea rooms to restaurants and hotels. Many are dog friendly, most welcome walkers and cyclists, this is Dartmoor…we love the outdoorsy types!
