Dartmoor Animal Life
Of course the most iconic of all the animals on Dartmoor are the ponies, but there are hundreds of other species found all over the moor, both wild and domesticated!
We will use this page to bring you information about as many different animals as possible; where they live, what they do, how you can see them.
You can find out about the types of ponies living on the moor by looking at our Dartmoor Ponies page, and read the Devon Wildlife Trust’s page Dartmoor Wildlife, to learn where to see Dippers, Grey Wagtails and even Salmon!
New to the site is our Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust page. Here you will find information on the various types of activities and work the ponies do, from conservation grazing to changing the lives of young people on the Ponies Inspiring People programme. Many exciting things happening at the Trust in this their 10th anniversary!
Coming very soon will be the touching, inspiring and fascinating Diary of a Dartmoor Hill Pony, where you will be able to follow the progress of a newly weaned foal from the commons of south Dartmoor as he begins his handling and education with Joanne Todd at Dartmoor Hill Pony Promotions…….
