AboutA warm welcome awaits at this beautiful, characterful Dartmoor cottage, with cake and clotted cream from a nearby farm. What a wonderful way to start your holiday, surrounded by the glorious scenery of Dartmoor National Park, perfect for walking, cycling or simply relaxing and unwinding whatever the season.
Wisteria Cottage offers immaculate accommodation over two floors, with a private entrance and hallway (attached to owners home). Beautiful oak floors, vaulted ceilings and beams give the open plan lounge-kitchen-diner a wonderful bright, open feel, whilst downstairs offers a gorgeous super-king bed and oak flooring in the bedroom, and a separate wet room. Just what you need after a day out in the fresh air enjoying the scenery, the iconic wild ponies, and the fabulous food Dartmoor has on offer.
The annexe has it's own parking space & is centrally heated. The owners utility room and colourful garden are available for use together with patio table & chairs. All bed linen & towels are provided. The property would provide spacious and comfortable accommodation for 2 adults but there is room for a cot or small extra bed in the bedroom and there is a double futon in the living room. You will receive a warm welcome on arrival at Wisteria Cottage including a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, homemade cake & clotted cream from the nearby farm.
Spacious downstairs bedroom with super-king bed, oak floor & plenty of storage. A cot or small bed settee are available.
Spacious downstairs wet room comprising shower, wash basin & WC.
Well equipped kitchen area includes a fridge, oven & hob, dishwasher & microwave.
A washing machine , tumble dryer, ironing board and iron are available for use in the owners utility room which can be accessed directly from the annexe bedroom. The utility room also provides a useful space for cleaning muddy boots & drying wet clothing.
The open plan living room upstairs is bright & airy and features a vaulted ceiling with oak beams & oak floor, a flat screen TV, stereo CD player, DVD player and double futon. Internet access and a selection of books, DVDs and games are provided.
Being keen walkers ourselves we would be happy to offer a drop off & pick up service for walkers wishing to walk from one point to another rather than the usual circular route. For cyclists, we have a secure store room for locking away bikes.
Stairs from the hallway to the upstairs living area mean that the property maybe unsuitable for those with mobility problems.
The owners large, colourful & secluded garden is available for your relaxation together with the patio table & chairs.
A welcome pack on arrival and a selection of books, games and DVDs are provided. We accept one small/medium well behaved dog for an additional charge of £20. No smoking in the cottage please.
Scorriton lies just a few miles away from the Dart Valley, Widecombe in the Moor, Haytor and Buckfast with it's popular Abbey. The village is situated on The Two Moors Way long distance footpath and the Dartmoor Way High Moors Link cycle track. A track opposite the cottage leads directly onto the moor. The village is home to the famous Tradesmans Arms pub, only 100 yards from the cottage, providing real ales & home cooked food. Try the excellent Sunday lunch. The community shop & tea rooms in the adjacent village of Holne approx. 1 mile away serves delicious home made cakes & scones.
There are many activities to be found on Dartmoor National Park including organised walks, cycling, horse riding and the increasingly popular geocaching & letterboxing, not to mention delicious cream teas in the village cafes. The quaint town of Totnes, only 9 miles away, provides an array of unique independent shops, tea rooms & coffee shops. Check out the Friday & Saturday markets full of bargains & local produce from pickles & speciality bread to salad servers & jewellery. Have an amazing lunch for £3.50 at the curry stall!
Ride on a steam train on the South Devon Railway, which runs along the stunning River Dart valley between Totnes & Buckfastleigh. Visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and the Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies. 3 great attractions for a day out.
The A38 Devon Expressway is easily accessible, from where Exeter or Plymouth can be reached in around 30 minutes. The English Riviera on the east coast of Devon is 30-40 mins away, which is most famous for it's award winning beaches, and includes the popular resorts of Torquay & Brixham. Here there are a wealth of attractions, activities and entertainments to choose from. However, it is also easy to find many beautiful more secluded coves for some peace & relaxation. The south coast including the Salcombe area and South Hams beaches provide some spectacular scenery, coastal walks and even more secluded beaches.
