AboutVisit Dartmoor and stay in the cosy Lower Barn at Sherberton Farm, situated near the hamlet of Hexworthy, right in the middle of the moor. Sherberton Farm is one of the ancient tenements of Dartmoor, situated on the convergence of the iconic Swincombe and West Dart rivers, across the boundaries of 3 of the 4 quarters of the ancient Forest of Dartmoor. A 1500 acre working hill farm on which we graze sheep, cattle and Dartmoor ponies. We also run a timber business and saw mill in our top yard. The Lower Barn is an ideal base for a couple wanting to explore the Moor.
The accommodation consists of open plan living, with a kitchen area, dining table and chairs and lounge. It has one bedroom from which you have a wonderful view of our beautiful valley with a double bed and en-suite shower and loo. There is an additional toilet at the entrance to the property, where the washing machine is located and there is ample room to store your outdoor gear/wellies or walking boots in the lobby. There is ample parking in the main farmyard, with a backdoor opening onto private garden. (BBQ provided).
The main form of heating is supplied by the AGA with storage heaters for those chillier evenings. The Aga also provides cooking facilities and produces wonderful casseroles and roast dinners, if you are so inclined. There is also a combi microwave, toaster and electric kettle. There is a TV with freesat, a DVD player with selection of DVDs and a radio/CD player with Bluetooth facility. Bed linen and towels are included in the price.
The farmstead is located in the beautiful Swincombe valley. There are footpaths, access land and bridlepaths aplenty, one runs through the yard so you can walk out of your front door to discover the local area. Dartmoor also benefits from much common land on which there is open access for walkers. Very good fly-fishing for wild brown trout, salmon and sea trout is available -with appropriate permits- right under the farmstead. As we are within the Dartmoor National Park as well as fantastic scenery there are many features of interest locally such as Bronze Age hut circles, historic tin mine workings, old farm buildings, wildlife, Churches and an Abbey, Tors etc etc.

Map & Directions
The farm is in a remote location, the nearest shops being in Holne or Princetown, about 15 minutes' drive away. It is probably best to have shopped before you get here or arrange for a supermarket delivery after you arrive so you can fill up the fridge/freezer as you wish (Tescos, Sainsburys, Asda and Waitrose all deliver to local homes). Our postcode should bring them into the yard.
Holne is 5 miles away with a community run shop that has all the essentials. Princetown is a 9 mile drive with a Post Office and store which sells all the basics plus cafes and pubs but no garage. It is about 3 miles cross country so ideal aim for a walk and lunch out. Postbridge is 10 miles away and has a small post office and store, ideal in an emergency. Both of these also have Dartmoor National Park Information Centres. Buckfastleigh (10 miles) Ashburton (10 miles) and Yelverton (13 miles) all have a small Co-op, pharmacy, post office and a garage with other shops, pubs and cafes. Tavistock at 14 miles away is our local market town with a good selection of shops and 2 fuel stations.
