Situated right in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, in the village of Postbridge (famous for its ancient clapper bridge), Lydgate house is a wonderful, secluded hotel that offers its guests the very best in luxurious hospitality. Reached down a private lane and surrounded by acres of private grounds, this large and spacious establishment is light, bright and airy. The house faces south and from every window there are stunning views across the valley of the East Dart - a panoramic scene that has not changed for hundreds of years. The hotel is immaculate and the decorations and furnishings have been carefully chosen to ensure that the atmosphere here is one of relaxed, country living rather than stilted elegance. The lounge with its large, all-embracing armchairs and sofas is just the place to relax and read in front of the log fire or enjoy a conversation with other guests.
Meanwhile each of the en-suite guest bedrooms is equally stylish but they maintain an individuality that further creates the true feeling of a home from home. With just 2 single and 5 double bedrooms, including 2 particularly luxurious rooms, the number of guests here at any one time is limited and this enables the very best in personal care and service. Breakfast here is a substantial affair that is both delicious and perfect for setting guests up for a day out exploring Dartmoor and beyond. The dinner menu of 3 courses offers guests a chance to enjoy some of Devon's best meat, fish and vegetables. The simple modern English dishes are all prepared in the hotel’s kitchen with flair and imagination whilst the puddings are sure to tempt everyone, even the most hardened weight watcher.
With an atmosphere more like a country house than a hotel, Lydgate House is perfect for those looking for a relaxed environment surrounded by glorious country side and with fishing in the near by river and walks across Dartmoor, beginning at the hotel's front door, this is a country person's idyll. A delightful place, Lydgate House also welcomes well-behaved dogs and, in order to maintain the tranquillity, only children over the age of 15.
