YHA Okehampton consists of two venues on the south side of Okehampton Town on the edge of Dartmoor. The original site, The Goods Shed, is adjacent to Okehampton Station, whereas Bracken Tor, which features Bracken Tor House and Bracken Tor Lodge, is further out of town, right on the edge of Dartmoor. Each hostel has it's own grounds and garden areas maintained by our groundsmen, with picnic benches, activity facilities and camp-fire areas. There is on-site parking and free wifi in all accommodation units. The total capacity for both venues is up to 200 people.
All of our accommodation is centrally heated, with either single rooms or bedrooms containing bunk beds for 2, 4, 6, or 8 bedded rooms. There are a few family rooms with a double bed bunk (5 and 7 bedded rooms). Many rooms have their own shower and toilets.
There are full catering facilities, including licensed bar and dining room area at both the Goods Shed and Bracken Tor offering full board for groups and individuals, in addition to the self catering kitchens in all 3 buildings.
There is also a campsite area at both locations, which tends to be open during the school holidays.
For families and individuals: During school holidays and out of season, most of our rooms are bookable on-line. When the hostel is not in use by groups these rooms are available for use by everyone, and can be booked for conferences. Both locations also have a lounge with TV, dining room and a games room.
For Schools and Groups: During school term times all buildings have communal rooms which are allocated to specific groups. We operate a small menu agreed in advance with each visiting group, produced in our nut-free kitchen by our experienced catering team led by Gareth using mainly locally sourced meat and dairy produce. Gluten free and dairy free and other dietary requirements can be catered for, preferably with advance notice. Our activity team will provide a stimulating, fun and action packed programme for all types of groups. Arrangements can be made for coach parking (if required).
During the low season we take Exclusive Hire bookings for the entire hostel. We can provide catering, if required, or part catering if you just want a special meal.
Bracken Tor also has a wedding license, and so we can provide a venue for a wedding with a difference.
